Dr. (Hannah) Aura Shoval
Brief Bio
Dr. (Hannah) Aura Shoval is the chief of pediatric rehabilitation medicine at Atlantic Health System and a clinical associate professor at Rutgers/ New Jersey Medical School. She is a transformational leader with a proven track record of leading strategic, innovative initiatives to address barriers to high-quality healthcare, including poverty, racial discrimination, language spoken, and immigrant status.
She is triple board certified in physiatry, pediatric rehabilitation medicine, and traumatic brain injury. She did her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at New York- Presbyterian Hospital, where she served as chief resident. She then completed a fellowship in pediatric rehabilitation at Columbia Medical Center/Blythedale Children’s Hospital’s combined program.
Dr. Shoval has done research in many areas, including barriers to medical care, spasticity management, autism, sleep medicine, and cardiopulmonary effects of exercise. She has lectured nationally and internationally on these topics. She currently serves on the national research committee of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine.
Clinically, she specializes in cerebral palsy, spasticity management, and walking difficulties. She is the medical director of several multi-disciplinary clinics. She leads a dedicated team that includes a nurse coordinator, social worker, and nutritionist to help address the social determinants of health.
Her volunteer work addresses food insecurities, poverty, and health equity. To this end, she is in the process of obtaining her MBA at Rutgers Business School where she is currently the health equity medical advisor for Rutgers Institute of Corporate Social Innovation.
In her spare time, she enjoys doing gymnastics with her three children and competing with her husband in ballroom dance competitions.
